CoinRank News: Malicious actors appear to have hacked into the New York Posts X account in an attempt to defraud cryptocurrency users on the social media platform. Recently, some X users in the crypto community reported that they received private messages from the New York Posts official X account, inviting them to participate in a podcast recording and asking to contact via Telegram. The fraud was first discovered by Kerberus founder and CEO Alex Katz on May 3, who shared a screenshot showing that it was a message disguised as coming from writer and journalist Paul Sperry and sent through the official New York Post account. Whats interesting about this case is that the scammers accessed the account without authorization, but did not post the Pump.fun address or wallet phishing link. Instead, they contacted the user through private messages and then directed them to Telegram, observed Drew, a cybersecurity engineer and NFT collector. He added that the scammers blocked users from replying after sending the message to prevent the real New York Post team from noticing that the account had been hacked. Chain detective ZachXBT said that the account hack was similar to the case a few weeks ago where The Defiants X account was used to send private messages.
