Vitalik Buterin suggested ZK and FHE projects should report overhead ratios (cryptographic vs. raw computation time) instead of generic “ops per second.”
He said this metric is more hardware-independent and helps developers understand the efficiency cost of cryptographic computation. Even with hardware variations, he believes the overhead factor is a clearer and more practical benchmark.
